Local Wesleyan Students Inducted to Physics Honor Society

Ten West Virginia Wesleyan College students were inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honor society. Members are selected based on outstanding academic achievement. Sigma Pi Sigma is housed within the Society of Physics Students (SPS), a professional association explicitly designed for students. The society operates within the American Institute of Physics, an umbrella organization that includes ten other professional science societies.
The Society of Physics Students exists to help students transform themselves into contributing members of the professional community. Coursework develops only one range of skills; other skills needed to flourish professionally include effective communication and personal interactions, leadership experience, establishing a personal network of contacts, presenting scholarly work at professional meetings and in journals, and outreach service to the campus and local community. SPS has over 700 chapters on college campus across the country, and around 5,000 students take part in chapter activities each year.
Inductees, L-R: Dr. Bradley Conrad, National Director of Sigma Pi Sigma; Dr. Milbury, Chapter Adviser; Kaylee Burdette of Cross Lanes; Becca Davis of Blakeslee, PA, Chapter President; Caitlyn Baicar of Crofton, MD; Olivia Rycroft of Elkins; Eleni Brick of Elizabeth, WV; Mackenzie Robatin of Uniontown, PA; Kimmie Culver of Culpeper, VA; Dr. Eric Reynolds, assistant professor of physics; Allison Haertter of Reading, PA; Angela Meyer of Elkview, WV; Randy Corathers of Ellamore; and Dr. G. Bert Popson, professor of physics.
