Collecting Rectangles: An Intermedia Performance Exhibition

Collecting Rectangles - November 19 at 4:30pmA live, interactive performance will be held on Thursday, November 19, at 4:30pm in the Sleeth Gallery in McCuskey Hall. An artist talk will follow at 6:00pm.

Collecting Rectangles examines the intersection between capitalism and daily activities. Through the multi-disciplinary quality of this work, Mueller is interested in developing situations that disrupt familiar social trajectories and hierarchies. She includes recognizable apparel and gestures to playfully occupying the threshold of absurdity, while asking questions about time, value, routines, consumption, and the monetization of happiness. The exhibition includes an interactive, live performance during the reception on November 19.

Mueller has exhibited nationally and internationally as an interdisciplinary artist exploring hyperactive news media and corporate management systems. She creates experiences that engage with social and political issues through a variety of media including drawing, performance, and installation.

Recent exhibitions include Americana at The Soap Factory in Minneapolis MN and Arrest Me at Punch Gallery in Seattle WA. Artist residencies include Vermont Studio Center, Ucross Foundation, Santa Fe Art Institute, Nes Artist Residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland, Virginia Center for Creative Art where she was a Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Creative Fellow, Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, and Ox-Bow.

Mueller was raised in Fargo, ND, and received an MFA in Studio Art from University of South Florida. Additionally, she has obtained performance training at Dell’Arte International and the Brave New Institute (now known as the Brave New Workshop Student Union).

Mueller is currently under contract with Oxford University Press to publish a foundational art textbook entitled Elements and Principles of 4D Art and Design, due out January 2016.
