Wesleyan Again Claims Top Honors in U.S. News & World Report Rankings

U.S. News & World Report has once again named West Virginia Wesleyan College a first-tier regional college in the South, according to their 2016 Best Colleges guide.  The private residential college is the only West Virginia school to be listed in the “Great Schools at Great Prices” category for the fourth consecutive year, which uses academic quality and cost of attendance after financial aid as qualifiers.  Wesleyan was listed as the 14th best regional college in the publication.

This is not the first time this year Wesleyan has claimed top honors.  Washington Monthly named Wesleyan the 31st best baccalaureate college among 355 schools across the nation, as well as 6th in the nation in the category “Community Service Participation and Hours Served.”  The College also placed 91st in the Southeast in a new category, “Best Bang for the Buck.”

The Princeton Review also doled out honors to Wesleyan as it was named one of the 140 colleges in the “Best in the Southeast” category in The Princeton Review’s 2016 Best Colleges: Region by Region.  Last month, Wesleyan was also recognized by in the article “8 Awesome Schools You Never Knew Existed.”  The article touted the chemical hygiene major, as well as the performing arts and outdoor recreation programs.

“We are very proud of our reputation for excellence,” noted Wesleyan President Pamela Balch ’71.  “These glowing third-party endorsements indicate the respect that the College has across the country.  Wesleyan has a long tradition of offering a challenging academic program in a supportive environment that is affordable for families.  Over 95% of our students receive scholarships and grants, and we are grateful to our alumni and friends who give generously to support our financial aid program.”

Founded in 1890, West Virginia Wesleyan is a private residential college located in Buckhannon. The college offers 47 majors and graduate programs in athletic training, business, education, English creative writing and nursing. Thirteen Wesleyan students have been selected as U.S. Department of State Fulbright Scholars.
