Wesleyan Brings Home the MEC Commissioner's Cup

West Virginia Wesleyan has won the 2016-17 Mountain East Conference Commissioner's Cup recognizing overall athletic excellence among its membership on an annual basis.

The standings are compiled utilizing an "all-sports rating." This rating is determined by a formula that awards points to a school for its regular season finish equal to the number of teams per sport sponsored by the MEC, and then divided by the number of sports offered by the institution. The final rating is a percentage of points acquired against the number of points available (average percentile finish in the standings of each sport sponsored by an institution).

West Virginia Wesleyan finished ahead of two-time champion University of Charleston. Wheeling Jesuit took third, followed by Shepherd, Fairmont State and Notre Dame. Eleven different teams won at least one MEC title in 2016-17.

The Bobcats won conference championships in softball and men's and women's track, and won a share of the regular season title and tournament title in men's tennis. WVWC also had runner-up finishes in men's and women's cross country to help bolster its athletic season.
