Musical Groups Will Begin Fall Tour

West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Concert Chorale and Concentus Vocum will embark on a musical tour to New York City December 14 through December 18 for the Fall 2016 Tour under the direction of Dr. R. Dan Hughes, director of choral activities and associate professor of music at Wesleyan.

The group will travel to Martinsburg on Wednesday to perform a concert at the Martinsburg High School and later in the evening at the Cavalry united Methodist Church.

On Thursday, the musical ensembles will perform at the Mountain Ridge Middle School in Gerrardstown, MD and the Trinity Assembly of God in Midlothian, MD at 7 p.m.

The singers will perform a concert at Nassau Community College in Garden City, NY on Friday, December 16 and at 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Incarnation.  On Sunday, December 18, the concert will conclude at Bridgeport United Methodist Church at 7 p.m.

The program will consist of songs from three particular genres: English madrigals, German partsongs, and Latin Renaissance motets.  Selection of songs will include April is in My Mistress’ Face, Requiem, and Now is the Month of Maying.

Selecting music for the choral ensembles at West Virginia Wesleyan College is always a wonderfully complicated process,” said Dr. Hughes.  “I sought out these particular genres to give these singers an opportunity to sing pieces with one to two singers on a part.”

Dr. Hughes conducts the Concert Chorale, Wesleyan Singers, and Concentus Vocum.  He teaches private voice and chorale conducting along with teaching a first-year seminar.  He is also the artistic director for Chanticleer Children’s Chorus and conductor of the Chamber and Young Men’s Ensembles.

The concerts are free and open to the public.
