Casey Receives Dorothy Shaw Leadership Award at Conference

West Virginia Wesleyan College student Katherine “Katie” Casey of Canton, OH, was awarded the Dorothy Shaw Leadership Award at the District III Leadership Conference in Parsippany, NJ on February 18-21.

Casey, a junior psychology major, is a member of the Alpha Delta Pi (ADPI) sorority. An active member of campus, Casey serves as the Chapter President and Greek Life as a member of the Strategic Vision committee. She has previously served Alpha Delta Pi as the Philanthropy Chair and Panhellenic Delegate.

On campus, she is also involved in the LEAP program, Student Ambassador Program, and a member and captain of the women’s golf team.

The award is the highest individual honor given to a collegiate member of Alpha Delta Pi. Established in 1950, this award is dedicated in memory of Dorothy Pierpont Shaw, Rho, 1916. In her likeness, women chosen to receive this esteemed honor exemplify high scholarship, devotion to their chapters, and outstanding leadership on campus and in the community.

In addition, Casey has been selected as one of the eight outstanding collegians selected for the Alpha Delta Pi Internship Program at Alpha Delta Pi Executive Office in Atlanta.  She will begin training in July. Interns assist with the preparation, execution, and “behind the scenes” work for the Grand Convention.  They also meet and learn from current and past Grand Council members and International Officers during their meetings and workshops.  Additionally, they will spend a day in Macon, GA, ADPI’s founding location, visiting ADPI landmarks including Wesleyan College, the Cannonball House and Rosehill Cemetery.

Alpha Delta Pi was founded on May 15, 1851 in Macon, GA making it the first secret society college women were eligible to join.  The rich values developed by Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald and the five other founding members created a strong and dynamic foundation.  Now, the legacy left over 164 years ago continues to live on through the 155 vibrant chapters that are currently active.  Alpha Delta Pi has been on Wesleyan’s campus since May 8, 1948.
