Wesleyan Launches “Enhancing Our Tradition, Empowering Our Future” Campaign

West Virginia Wesleyan College has officially launched the public phase of the “Enhancing Our Tradition, Empowering Our Future” $30 Million Capital Campaign.  The overarching goal of the campaign is to build on Wesleyan’s demonstrated and recognized strengths and enhance the College’s position as an educational leader.

“Wesleyan has enjoyed tremendous success during the past decade, thanks to the vision of our Board of Trustees, and the dedicated leadership of the administration, staff, and faculty,” stated President Pamela Balch ’71.  “While we are rightfully proud of our accomplishments, we cannot rest on our laurels.  We must continually strive to improve all facets of the College and remain affordable to the next generation of students.”

The College has secured $23.4 million toward the $30 million goal since the silent phase began on July 1, 2012.  The “Enhancing Our Tradition, Empowering Our Future” Campaign has six funding priorities.  These include (1) Capital Improvements that include classroom and residence hall renovations and the restoration of Wesley Chapel, (2) Academic Programs and Faculty Support, (3) Endowed Scholarships, (4) Title III Endowment Match, (5) Athletic Facilities including new tennis courts and the transformation of Ross Field into a multi-purpose athletic complex, and (6) the Wesleyan Fund—annual support for current scholarships.

“West Virginia Wesleyan College is a very special place, where for 125 years, students, faculty, and staff have come together to learn, work and play,” added Caroline Rapking ’79, Campaign Chair.  “We have a great tradition of excellence and this campaign will allow us to continually adapt and improve.  We are extremely grateful for the support we have received to date and hope others will join those contributors so that current and future students will benefit from the Wesleyan educational experience.”

The United Methodist Church-related school has 1,518 students and has experienced a steady increase in enrollment during the past decade.  The College offers 47 undergraduate majors and graduate programs in athletic training, business administration, education, English creative writing, and nursing.

Wesleyan was recently listed as a first-tier regional college for the fifth consecutive year in U.S. News & World Report’s Best College Guide and is the only West Virginia school to be included in that publication’s “Great Schools at Great Prices” category.  Wesleyan also enrolls more West Virginia PROMISE Scholars than any private school in the state and leads West Virginia in the number of undergraduate Fulbright Scholar winners.

Wesleyan publicly kicked off the campaign October 16 during the annual Alumni Banquet at Homecoming.  To learn more about the “Enhancing Our Tradition, Empowering Our Future” Campaign, go to
