Armistead ’81 to Lead Wesleyan Alumni Relations

William B. Armistead ’81 has been appointed as Associate Vice President of Advancement and Alumni Relations at West Virginia Wesleyan College.  The Morgantown native brings over 30 years of higher education to his new position.

Since 2012, he has served as the President of the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc., where he has led efforts to grow the institution’s endowment to provide funding for student scholarship, faculty enhancements, and facility improvements.

Armistead began his career at Wesleyan in 1982 as an admissions counselor before moving to West Virginia University’s Admissions and Records Office.  In 1988, he became the Associate Director of the West Virginia University Alumni Association and was promoted to Associate Executive Director in 1997, which led to him serving as Director of Athletic Development for the Mountaineer Athletic Club from 2000 to 2003.

Armistead enjoyed a three-year stint in banking and returned to higher education advancement in 2006 as Director of Development for the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, part of the WVU Foundation, a position he held for six years before leading the Fairmont State Foundation.

“We are delighted that Will is returning to Wesleyan to lead our Alumni Relations office and work with major donors to the College,” said President Pamela Balch ’71.  “Will brings a vast amount of experience and expertise and is an individual who is well known in West Virginia as well as by many of our alumni across the country.  He will be a great addition to our team.”

Armistead is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Leadership West Virginia and has held a number of leadership positions with the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties, the Mylan Park Board of Directors, and Morgantown High School Foundation.

His spouse, Julie Rosenwald Armistead, is also a 1982 West Virginia Wesleyan College graduate.  The couple are the parents of two adult children.  Armistead will begin his duties at the College on June 1.
