Wesleyan Becomes Sponsor of West Virginia High School Business Plan Competition

West Virginia Wesleyan College is now a sponsor of the West Virginia High School Business Plan Competition.  The competition is for qualified juniors and seniors enrolled full time in West Virginia Department of Education high schools.

The West Virginia High School Business Plan Competition allows eligible students to create teams of 1-3 members to develop an entrepreneur idea, including a business name, idea, marketing analysis, financial recap, and a strengths-weakness-opportunities-threat (SWOT) analysis.  Judges from each region in the state evaluate the propensity of the plan and narrow finalists down to ten.  These finalists are then paired with a business coach who will mentor and support the finalists through to the end of the competition.

As a five-year sponsor, Wesleyan takes on the obligation to fund a $10,000 annual scholarship to be split between members of the winning team and payable equally over four years.  Students must have a minimum 3.0 high school GPA and a minimum 21 composite ACT score or minimum SAT verbal and math score combined of 980 to qualify for the scholarship.  In order to keep the scholarship, winners must maintain a 3.25 per semester GPA and complete 30 credit hours per academic year over the four-year period of study at Wesleyan.

A Memorandum of Understanding between West Virginia Wesleyan College and the West Virginia Department of Education was signed by President Pamela Balch ’71 on March 15, 2016.
