Title III Grant

Title III Grant

In September of 2014, the U.S. Department of Education awarded a $10 million Title III grant for West Virginia Wesleyan College under the department's Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP). The program helps eligible that institutions of higher education to become self-sufficient and expand their capacity to serve low-income students by providing funds to improve and strengthen the academic quality, institutional management, and fiscal stability of a college.

The grant, which is distributed over five years, is the largest grant of its type awarded to a college or university; it is also the largest award that Wesleyan has received in its 125-year history. It will be used to improve strategies for student engagement and success with a strong focus on student retention and graduation rates.

The Title III team will work to improve student services through the development of the Student Success Center and enhance faculty development through the existing Center for Teaching and Learning by providing opportunities for faculty to learn and implement new teaching strategies. Finally, Title III will renovate an estimated 50 classrooms across campus.
