Meet the Director

Robert Quarles, Wesleyan class of 2011, received his Master of Education in Organizational Leadership from Belmont University in Nashville, and is currently working on his Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. He returned to Wesleyan after working as a Student Support Specialist at Belmont University where he assisted in the creation of “Bridges to Belmont,” an academic program that provides full-ride scholarships to low income students in the Nashville area.

Quarles, who began in this role at the beginning of January 2015, has created programs to meet the needs of Wesleyan’s diverse population.

“I want to create and continue the student-centered environment I felt as a student,” stated Quarles.  “As a student, my needs were always put at the forefront of my education.  I want students to have the same resources that I had to ensure that our diverse students have a place to be heard, exercise their lifestyles, and advocate for themselves.”

Over the past year, Quarles, has created a new more inviting environment for all students, but especially students of color, international students and students who identify as LGBTQ.

“I want to continue the tradition of Wesleyan fostering a place for diversity and creating spaces for diverse students to stay successful.” Says Quarles.

Over the last year and half Quarles has revamped our Martin Luther King Jr. Day Service, provided forums for students, countless student programs and training for staff and faculty.

Quarles hopes to start a larger parent initiative for minority students and work in-depth with staff, faculty and student organizations to continue to provide a space where minority students can feel accepted and the whole Wesleyan community can learn from different cultures.
