Athletic Facilities

Intercollegiate athletics has been a part of Wesleyan’s culture since the founding of the school in 1890. Over 500 students currently participate in one of Wesleyan’s 21 athletic teams and three out of four students enjoy intramural competition. Lessons learned and leadership skills developed through athletic participation have and continue to be aligned with the mission of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The Multi-Purpose Athletic Complex

The College is converting Ross Field into a multi-purpose athletic complex that will accommodate men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s track, the marching band, and intramurals.

The project has two construction phases:

The college successfully funded Phase I in the fall of 2016. The $1.5 million project included the installation of FieldTurf and a new Benyon eight-lane Olympic-sized track.

We are now raising funds for Phase II, which is estimated to cost $850,000. This phase includes lighting, a new media center, concession stand, public restrooms, and additional seating.

The New Tennis Complex

The college opened the new Tennis Complex over homecoming weekend the fall of 2016. The complex consists of six courts, lighting, public restrooms, and storage. The courts accommodate both men’s and women’s programs and allow the College to host NCAA events, regional high school tennis matches, clinics, and camps.

Three court naming opportunities remain at $25,000.

The four courts in the Sam Ross Tennis Center will continue to be used for recreational play and intramurals.
